EDS Ottawa’s Canteen Services Team is on-call 24/7 and prepared to respond at a moment’s notice.
As an auxiliary rehabilitation service provider to Ottawa Fire Services and Ottawa Police Service, EDS Ottawa’s Canteen Services Team is fully-equipped to provide up to 150 meals immediately and with a capacity to serve 500+ meals daily; ensuring that emergency personnel have the nutritional and hydration requirements needed to perform their demanding duties, and that the people whose homes are affected by fire or disaster are cared for. The Canteen Services team are also prepared to respond to a reception centre and perform mass feeding operations in the event of a larger emergency causing evacuation.
In 2016, the EDS Ottawa Canteen Services Team was dispatched on numerous occasions, serving 1,684 hot meals to emergency personnel and clients affected by fire or disaster, along with many more snacks and hot and cold beverages.
Supported by a fully-dedicated program vehicle, one of six originally donated by the Harold E. Ballard Foundation, EDS Ottawa’s Canteen Services vehicle is part of a much bigger team.
In Canada alone, the Salvation Army’s EDS has over 30 similar trucks. For over 10 years, EDS Ottawa’s Canteen Services team has been supported by the Retired Ottawa Fire Fighters Association (ROFFA).
